8 kinds of children’s handicrafts using ant coloring page

Ants are charming little animals, and children love to learn about them! If you have little guys who love coloring, I have a fun way to take it to the next level. Using my free printable ant coloring page PDF format (you can find it below this article), you and your children can create amazing crafts while developing sophisticated motor skills. As a former private school teacher and now part of the Greencoloring community, I love turning simple activities into hands-on learning experiences for kids. My son Mike especially loves these projects, although sometimes he can be a mess, which makes things fun!

1. Ant paper puppet

Required materials:

  • Printed ant coloring page
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Popsicle or straw
  • Mark or crayon

step:

  1. First print the ant coloring page and then let your child choose the design they like. Lisa always chooses the most beautiful Lisa. Mike is the biggest ants because he finds them similar to superheroes.
  2. Use crayons or markers to make the young man color each ant. Interesting colors are suggested – such as rainbow ants or gold queen ants to inspire creativity. Mike last announced that his “Jungle Explorer Ant” made green ants.
  3. After coloring, carefully cut out each ant. If your child is still learning to use scissors, gently guide their hands. Lisa showed Mike’s patience and big sister skills, often helping him solve this part.
  4. Stick the cut ants to the top of the popsicle stick or straw. Hold it for a few seconds to check its proper adherence.
  5. Let them completely dry before using puppets for storytelling. Urge children to design their own adventures. Lisa and Mike exposed the ants on a wet afternoon, looking for the “big sugar treasure.” This made me very happy.

Interesting tips: Make the puppet show something more interesting by creating a small stage in the shoe box. The kids found it great! For more ideas about creating a puppet show, visit youtube.com.

2. Ant finger puppet

Required materials:

  • Ant coloring page
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape or adhesive
  • Small paper ring

step:

  1. Use the free coloring pages below, print and color small ants. This is an ideal moment for young people to showcase their artistic aspects. I always encourage Lisa and Mike to use different shades and even add small details (such as spots or stripes).
  2. Cut out the ants very carefully. If your child is having trouble, take some time to use safety scissors.
  3. Cut out a small, inch, long enough strip to wrap around your fingers. To stick with it, please use construction paper.
  4. Paste or bond the ends of each strip together create a cycle. Make sure their little fingers fit them comfortably.
  5. Cut the ants off each ring to create a cute finger puppet.
  6. Have the kids put them on their fingers and do interesting ant narratives. Mike happily showed the mountains of sugar rising in the kitchen.

Expert tips: On small hands, if you use the feeling instead of paper, the puppet will feel softer and last longer! For more creative puppet ideas, check out pbs.org.

3. The crown of ant

Materials required:

  • Printable ant coloring page
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue

step:

  1. Print and color ant page; then, cut a few ants to modify the crown.
  2. Cut into a long building paper enough to form the foundation of the crown.
  3. To create a whimsical look, use glue to arrange the ants on the strips randomly or in pattern.
  4. Before bonding or tape the stripes, measure the child’s head and change its length.
  5. Have the kids dress up as ant crowns and act as kings or queens of the ant kingdom upon completion! Lisa and Mike had planned a royal meeting between the “King of Green Ants” and the “Queen of Pink Ants”. Very charming!

Interesting tips: To make the ants express more, add small eyes!

4. Greeting cards with ant theme

Required materials:

  • Printable ant coloring page
  • Card or construction paper
  • glue
  • mark

step:

  1. To make a greeting card foundation, fold a piece of card stock in half. Vibrant colors help us make the card happier.
  2. Stick the colorful ants in front of the card. Toddlers should be encouraged to be creative in placement; Lisa once created an ant with small paper leaves!
  3. Let the kids add interesting notes to the card. I usually recommend writing something optimistic. Once Lisa wrote “You are as strong as an ant!” he smiled on his grandfather’s card.
  4. To personalize the card, please use stickers, glitters or additional drawings to retouch. Mike likes to add footprints to make the ants appear.
  5. Giving the card to a friend or relative to surprise you. Seeing their answers always makes the effort valuable!

Expert tips: These are great thank you letters for relatives and teachers!

5. Ant Story Board

Required materials:

  • Ant coloring page
  • Scissors
  • glue
  • A big poster board

step:

  1. From the free coloring page, print, cut out and color several ants. Use several colors to give your storyboard some variations. Mike likes traditional black ants. Lisa loves to make her ants full of vitality.
  2. Set them on a large poster board to depict the narrative scene. This is when imagination enters the previous stage! Lisa once created a narrative in which an ant built a castle, and Mike concluded that his ant was a secret agent of a secret operation.
  3. Join tunnels, bridges and small houses to inspire kids to design adventures. Let them describe their explanation of the next event. This is an amazing way to increase your imagination.
  4. Ants use markers to negotiate, draw paths, tunnels and interesting challenges. Lisa created a “dangerous area” with the imagined spider web, but Mike used to build a huge hill, but the ants had to climb for picnic food!
  5. Once the storyboard is completed, have the kids tell their stories loudly. When Mike likes to create ridiculous sound effects for ant parade, Lisa becomes dramatic in the narrative.

Interesting tips: Give the ant speech bubble and create comic-style narratives from there. This is a great way to mix art with narrative!

6. Room decoration ant mobile phone

Required materials:

  • Printable ant coloring page
  • String or yarn
  • Small stick or clothes rack
  • Hole puncher

step:

  1. From the page, print, color and cut a few ants. Children should be encouraged to play with several colors and designs. Lisa wanted a “Queen Ant Theme” who once created a small crown on her ants.
  2. Punch a hole on the top of each ant. Be very careful not to punch holes near the edges to avoid tearing the holes. Mike discovered this when one of his plants fell halfway through the suspension platform!
  3. Through each hole, thread and secure it tightly. Allow children to change their length so that the ants can hang at different heights. Lisa likes the staggered look, but Mike even prefers them.
  4. To build a phone, tie the strings to a hanger or stick. This is the fun part! This looks great when we used branches for natural style design.
  5. Hang your phone near the window to make the ants seem to be “marching in the air”. As people watch them sway with the wind, they seem to be really moving!

Expert tips: Some ants should be painted with dark light to illuminate at night. Mike puts his phone on the bed and loves the concept!

7. Ant Maze Game

Required materials:

  • Printable ant coloring page
  • A large piece of cardboard
  • glue
  • mark
  • Small button or bead

step:

  1. Place the coloring page on thick cardboard. Make sure it is centered at the center so you have room to draw a maze around it.
  2. Using markers, map the maze with winding paths, resulting in various food sources such as sugar cubes, leaves or picnic crumbs. Mike loves to create “Dead Dist” just to mess up, Lisa loves to add challenging turns!
  3. As a game work, use buttons, beads or small toy ants. Each player chooses an ant to navigate the maze.
  4. Challenge children to determine the fastest way to food! We think of it as a game with a timer. Lisa usually wins, but Mike insists that his ants are “training” faster next time.
  5. If you want it to be more difficult, add challenges like cotton ball “rock” or paper “spider web”. Lisa likes a rule that requires ants to avoid raindrops and small blue beads to get home safely.

If your kids love puzzles, do a few mazes and swap them for endless challenges!

8. Ant handprint art

Required materials:

  • Ant coloring page
  • Paint (washable)
  • Construction paper
  • mark

step:

  1. To create an ant’s body, let the child immerse his palms in paint and press it onto the construction paper. Get ready for fun and a mess; last time Mike apparently painted his elbows and we still don’t know how!
  2. To create an interesting interactive scene from the print, cut out the colors around the handprint and the ants that stick to the color. Lisa likes to give her aunt a parade appearance.
  3. Add legs, antennae and tiny features with markings. Let children explore several ways of expression. Lisa made an ant look sleepy and Mike looked shocked!
  4. Display handprint artwork on the refrigerator or frame as a dry souvenir. Especially when considering how many hours those little hands are, they create amazing works of memory!

Safety Tips: Always painted in a non-toxic, washable color. Turn off the baby wipes for quick cleaning.
